Hi. There used to be a window for writing a little “profile” (personal statement or description) about oneself, for us bloggers here at The Kootenay Network. It went beyond your name and location. I wrote one of thse statements and felt it was a good thing, because I could express my interests – and I felt, in the long run (as The Kootenay Network becomes more popular) maybe I’d connect with people who shared some of my interests.
I suggested to Chris Shepherd that there be some way we could put “tags” on these profiles, searchable tags. That way, if you were interested in (for example) woodworking, rock climbing, hockey, painting, kayaking, metalworking, or whatever, the tags could be searched and people with similar interests could be identified. And this would be the case even if there were 1000 or more bloggers on the system.
But now, it seems that even the most basic profile (i.e., profile statement) is gone. And the only fields left are name and location. What happened??
Okay, my suggested is to do what some of the on-line forum systems have done: allow a profile (‘this is me’) statement. Provide a searchable tag or key-terms function, so people can find one another.
I realize that, in a way, finding the people with a shared interest is not too difficult now on TKN, because as yet there are not that many bloggers on TKN. But the vision is to grow the system, right?
Okay, thanks for considering this. And thanks for all the groundwork you’re doing.
